About Me

About Me:

Here's a little about myself and my background. I grew up like any other normal kid: normal parents, normal house, normal life. I was a skinny little thing, didn't think a thing about food or watch what I ate. I just ate what my mom cooked and I ran around enough outside and rode my bike...essentially I was an active kid.

When I was ten, I moved to another state and I think I was a little depressed. I didn't have any friends, so I didn't play outside as much. I think that was the first time I remember turning to food for comfort. Throughout my teenage years, I was always overweight. Never obese, but I never felt good about my body. Sure, I exercised every once in a while, but for the most part I was one of those teenagers that ate candy and soda and sat in front of the computer or the tv all day. Not a good lifestyle. Again, I didn't know much about nutrition, so I just ate whatever I wanted. Food tasted good, so I was happy.

When I got to college, I was a music theatre major. So I was surrounded by good-looking people who had been dancing their whole lives and I had not. I felt like the biggest one in my class. Sure, every so often I lost a few pounds, or did a high-energy show and felt a little bit better about myself, but again I was still always overweight. Over the years, I began to learn more and more about calories, about exercise, and about what I really needed to do for me to lose weight and become more healthy.

In the summer of 2008, I was at my highest weight ever. At 5'7", I should NOT have weighed 180-185 pounds. So since I didn't really know how to go about changing my lifestyle, I started Slim-Fast. I was on that for a few weeks, and I lost a few pounds. Over the next few months, though I didn't diet religiously, I got down to about 165.

Then I graduated college. Moved in with a roommate, and started a 40-hour-a-week office job. Which meant sitting on my butt for 8 hours a day. Needless to say, I did not realize how this would affect me. I gained 15 pounds in 6 months. I hadn't changed my diet much, but I was literally sitting all day. When the scale said 176 in October of 2010, I knew it was time to make a drastic change.

I started using a website called Calorie Count. Now, this app has been my saving grace ever since then. I made a HUGE change in my lifestyle, starting counting every calorie I ate, and I got a gym membership. Over the next few months, I lost a little over 20 pounds.

Since then, I have been jumping on and off the healthy wagon (And my weight has yo-yo'd from about 150-165 for the past 2 years). My body likes to sit at about 160 pounds comfortably, and once I get there, it takes a lot of effort to get lower. Lowest weight I have ever seen is 149. My ultimate goal weight is 135. Now, I am a foodie. I like food. I go through stages where I eat whatever I want to eat. But in January 2013, I made the choice (again!) to commit myself fully to this effort. I have been eating clean for just over two weeks now, and I feel really good. Weight is sitting at 153 right now, and I am confident I will be able to keep it going lower and lower.
